Getting outside on the 4th of July can seem like the furthest thing from fun with the temperatures on the rise, so I wanted to share 10 ways that you can get outside and enjoy it this year!
Marathons or Walkathons
Do a Google search, you’ll find tons of options available. Choose one to fit your pace and include your family in the festivities. You never know, it could become a favorite tradition and it’s so healthy for you!
Get on the Lake
You don’t have to have a boat to go on the lake, rent a kayak, canoe, paddle boat or even a paddle board for the day. Take a trip on the water and enjoy yourself, maybe splash your companion a bit on the way! Enjoy the revival that being on the water has to offer.
Take a Hike
Find a walking trail near you or a hiking path close by and take an adventure. Most state parks have paths that you can adventure on. The best part of all of these things is that you can create family memories to last and best of all none of these adventures are centered around food.
Go to the Pool
Have a local outdoor pool or splash pad around, or maybe a beach near you? A day spent on the water is a day never wasted. Walking in a pool is great cardio and a low-impact workout if you want to get something fun in your day.
Ride a Bike
There are more and more places popping up that you can rent a bike to ride for a day if you don’t’ have one. Grab a friend, grab a bike and hit the trail for the day. Pack a picnic lunch or find a place on your route to stop and grab a bite at.
Visit a Garden
Search for local garden venues to visit. Some zoos have gardens you can tour, oftentimes in larger cities, there are gardens or parks with beautiful gardens available for viewing. Maybe you need to do some of your own gardenings. Get down, get dirty, and get something done then!
Go to a Zoo
The zoo is a fantastic place to visit when you want a reason to be outside but aren’t sure what to do. Remember to bring water with!
Play a Game
You could play a game of golf, frisbee, mini-golf, or croquet. All of these are fun ways to get outside and move a little. You could host your family for a tournament day and finish up with fireworks.
Go Bird Watching
Summer is a wonderful time to observe birds in all their glory. Take a notebook and pen and jot down the birds you see. Invite a friend to come with and watch too!
Watch a Local Parade
If you don’t have a local parade, maybe organize one for your block or street to put on. Each house could have their own “float” or just organize the kids to march with red, white, and blue!
What do you and your family do to celebrate the 4th of July outside?
