It’s really tough to find the truth about getting healthy out there today – so many differing opinions, blog posts, research, and options. There are many common misconceptions in the health industry since so many different diets/meal plans/lifestyles are there to choose from.
Taking all of the different diet options off the table, let’s strip down 4 pieces of common health advice that are false, and what the truth really is about them:
Everything in Moderation
In reality, moderation kills momentum. If you have decided that you shouldn’t (eat it – do it – drink it) then don’t. If it’s a temptation for you, the best choice you have is to stay away from it completely. When you take the first “dip” into whatever it is, you WILL go back for more. Make up your mind to stay away completely from things that you know will stall your health progress.
Losing Over 1-2 Pounds Per Week is Unhealthy
While losing 1-2 pounds per week is ideal, if you are eating, exercising, and hydrating the right way – your body may just work for you and release MORE than 1-2 pounds per week and that is TOTALLY acceptable. If you are starving yourself, gorging yourself on protein meal replacements, or exercising an excessive amount then yes – over 1-2 pounds is VERY unhealthy. The key is to make sure that your body is getting the complete rounded out amount of nutrients that it needs to sustain you.
You Don’t Have to Exercise to be Healthy
Your body CAN release unhealthy weight while not exercising, but exercise doesn’t only benefit your body, it benefits you mentally and can benefit your spiritually as well. Studies have shown that simply walking can boost your mood. Walking IS exercise. Moving your body helps to balance your brain chemicals as well as boosting your metabolism to burn the things in your body that are harmful.
Mental, Spiritual, and Physical Health are all Separate
This is wrong on so many levels. Our overall health is all connected. To be the absolute most healthy you can be, you have to link all three together. When our spiritual health fails, it triggers a decrease in mental health which triggers a decrease in physical health. The same is true in any of the combinations you can make with the three. They are universally connected and should be treated as such.
