Put that down…or better yet don’t even pick it up. St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, tempting you to pick up the infamous “Shamrock Shake.” You know, it’s the green drink that refreshes and advertisers promote just about everywhere.
BUT, before you dive in….HEAR THIS! A 22 oz shake has 820 calories, 115 grams of sugar (THAT’S 29 TEASPOONS FULL) and 23 grams of fat. YOWSA! It’s loaded with over 33 ingredients, of which most are toxic to the body. So, why not make your own healthy version? The healthy version is only 7 ingredients. It’s all organic, all-natural and incredibly healthy!
Just combine:
- 1/2 can coconut milk
- 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 frozen banana
- handful of organic raw spinach
- 1/2 avocado
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
Put it all in blender until smooth. This version is only 169 calories and it’s loaded with vitamins and nutrients.
Okay, now that you have the healthy version of a shamrock shake to try. Now it’s time to shake up your workout routine a bit by – well…shaking! I know, this may not be considered a workout, but all movements burn calories.
While seated, get into the habit of bouncing and shaking your legs. Or take 60 seconds and shake your arms fast as if you’re playing maracas. You can even shake your hips to the length of your favorite song. Shaking your body throughout the day and often will burn extra calories. In fact, you could burn an extra 200 calories a day just by shaking.
