Do you like to eat fruit? Well, you might be consuming way too much. While fruit is one of God’s perfect foods, too much fruit can destroy your weight loss efforts.
Even though fruit is an awesome source of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants, it’s also a source of sugar. I know it’s natural, but it’s still sugar. Sugar feeds disease – no matter if it’s processed or in its raw state. This even includes dried fruit.
Now, I don’t want to scare you away from fruit. I love fruits and it does have great benefits, but not when you eat too much of it. One or two servings of fruit a day is plenty. AND – if you could eat all your fruit before noon…that’s even better. That way you have the rest of the day to burn off that fructose.
Did you know our diets today show a 500% increase in fructose levels compared to years ago? 500%!!! This is a huge culprit to obesity and disease, not to mention the addition of processed foods and sodas that are being consumed. Again, don’t be scared of fruit just make sure you don’t eat too much. Stick with those fruits that are on the low-glycemic index – like berries, prunes, kiwi, and grapefruit to name a few.
As a rule of thumb, 15-25 grams of fructose a day is a healthy amount. Don’t skip the fruit, but be more conscious of how much you are eating daily. You just might be surprised to find out how much you really do consume. Oh, and don’t forget that overconsumption could be in your smoothies alone.
