Stuff happens! The “stuff” that is part of life can cause people to feel inadequate or unaccepted. Acceptance and success is shaped by the foundation of your belief. Do you believe that because you are overweight you are not loved or accepted? After going through a divorce, do you think you’re a failure? Do you believe that you’re unaccepted after the loss of a job? People can become duped by “feelings” and the illusion that they may bring. We prove acceptance through the beliefs we choose to embrace. When you choose to maintain a positive attitude, even in the face of challenges (which are inevitable), you attract others who accept you, regardless of the circumstances you encounter.
Since I coach many people in the fitness and wellness category, let’s discuss acceptance in this arena. First of all, it’s important to recognize and accept your current state of being and acknowledge the original culprit that led you there. Once you recognize, accept, and own the reasons for your current condition, then it becomes easier to let it all go… emotionally and physically. Accepting yourself is the key for others acceptance! But, in the same breath, when others choose not to accept you then it is about their issues and insecurities… not yours.
Do you have a fitness goal? Is it realistic? Acceptance of your genetic make-up is important when you desire to reach a fitness and wellness goal. For instance, if you are 4’9” tall then you can’t possibly become 5’10”. If your body is naturally thinner, leaner, and more lithe rather than muscle-bound and dense, it’s more challenging to become one or the other. So accepting your genetics prior to goal-setting is important… it leaves less room for disappointment.
Once you embrace the way God created you and recognize that He created you in His image, you can apply your goals and actions to enhance your purpose. Action instead of talk is what separates the successful from the unsuccessful. Accept the mission instead of seeing it as mission impossible. Just take small steps. Becoming 1% better each day will get you where in 100 days. That’s right… 100% better! That doesn’t seem too impossible, does it?
Keep in mind that being your best… mind, body, and spirit is about health and purpose. Let go of what others may think or how they may judge. Remember—your foundation of belief shapes your acceptance! What do you believe?
