Who Needs to Stretch? It’s Not What You Think!
When it comes to stretching…do you think about how far you have to go or how far you can reach right now?
Stretching takes patience. It can be uncomfortable. It requires a choice to stick it out rather than shrink back. When you think about it, stretching is just as much about your mental and spiritual capacity as it is about your physical capacity. Stretching is merely reaching our capacity and holding it there until we can handle going a bit further.
Today I want to encourage you to stretch through the pain. Don’t stay stagnant, stretching is how we grow.
- Are you being stretched spiritually? Pray. Make quiet time a priority.
- Are you being stretched emotionally? Resist the urge to add more to your plate and just hold the stretch you are in until your emotional capacity increases.
- Are you being stretched physically? Take it one day at a time. You can do it!
Flexibility is an important part of functional fitness as it helps us get through life more with ease and less pain. As we age we tend to lose our flexibility. Flexibility is vital when building the physique you desire as it can help prevent injury and help gain muscle. Stretching not only stretches your physical body, but it stretches your mental health as well. When you go through a stretching routine, your mind has to stretch to push you past that place of discomfort. It’s also important to breathe deep through the place of discomfort in order to eventually experience comfort.
Stretching is indeed important. Insert an intentional time into your day. Maybe it’s even while you are watching your favorite TV show or while you are on the floor playing with your kids. Get creative and fit it in.

What do you think of using resistance bands while stretching?
I don’t use them for the resistance, rather I find they help me stay in better control of my stretches and allow me to better focus on target areas.

Bands can be great…not needed, of course, but if it helps you individually – I’m all for it! 🙂
