People everywhere in America are celebrating our country’s birthday every 4th of July. The day that we won our freedom from England! Many families and friends will gather, share time and love, watch fireworks, and of course…eat! Eating seems to be a big part of any holiday or celebration, which is wonderful but can also get you off course if you allow it. I want to encourage you to have a great time without hovering over the food all day – be active instead!
Growing up in Texas, we used to always play volleyball, horseshoes, croquet, four square, tag football, etc. The 4th of July was a “sporty” day full of activities. Granted, there was plenty of food, but that wasn’t the focus. The focus was on cultivating relationships with family and friends. Community is required for a healthy nation. Community offers security, accountability, and a chance to learn and grow by sharing life with one another. Today I will celebrate with some very special people in my life and take time to truly enjoy what the day brings.
I encourage you to strike a balance, relish the day’s offerings, and cherish the moments spent with those who matter most. Together, we can continue to build a healthier, stronger, and more united nation. Happy Independence Day!
