Losing weight can be difficult, especially if you don’t have the right plan or intentional accountability.
There are a lot of dynamics that go into it, your support system being one of those key components. Sometimes it can be difficult to bring your significant other into your journey with you. Weight loss is very personal and it can be hard to be vulnerable with your closest friends and family.
You need to be able to tap into that support system for the most successful transformation.
I want to share three ways that you can do that with your significant other!
Begin with opening up to your special someone. Share your heart with them, where you are at, where you want to be, and things they can do to help support you. Anytime we verbalize our struggles and fears, we open ourselves up to letting Truth seep into our hurts. Vocalizing struggles and goals invites others to come alongside us and share in our stories and can even potentially encourage them along their own journey.
Working out together can be a powerful connector in your relationship. Maybe you can’t keep up with him/her – that’s ok! Ask them to slow down or coach you. Or find something that you can do together. Even 30 minutes of brisk walking can bring your heart rate up and get your blood flowing, causing your circulation to increase, and bringing more oxygen and nutrients to your organs. This healthy blood flow and positive endorphin release also keeps couples “healthy” by talking through life’s ebbs and flows. There’s something so powerful about a walk and talk.
Eating together can also be beneficial. When your significant other knows your health goals, they can make better plans to accommodate your new way of eating. Maybe it means packing a snack instead of running through the drive-through. Perhaps it’s finding a Vegan-friendly restaurant instead of popping into your regular diner. Planning for success by making salads in a jar as grab-n-go meals for you and your loved one is always a hit. Whatever it may be, being conscious of what you are eating, and planning ahead will do wonders for your weight loss and your relationship.
