Shrooms! I love them and I can’t get enough of them. I drink mushroom tea, eat mushroom burgers, and put mushrooms in just about any recipe I can – even if it doesn’t call for mushrooms.
Why do I make room for the shroom? Because they are incredible adaptogens. What does that mean? It means they naturally help the body adapt to stress and to exert a normalizing effect to certain bodily processes.
Mushrooms help fight inflammation, aid in a healthy immune system, counter the effects of free radicals, cancer-fighting, help balance blood sugar levels and the list goes on. They are indeed a medicinal food that I encourage you to use often.
A few of my favorite shrooms to consume are Reishi, Lion’s Mane, Chaga, Cordyceps, and Shiitake.
Cordyceps extracts are probably my favorite before a workout as they have been shown to dilate the aorta supplying oxygenated blood to your entire circulatory system — thereby increasing blood flow and greatly enhancing endurance. This mushroom also stimulates the production of the main source of energy in your cells – called ATP.
Drink some cordyceps tea before a workout and watch your performance and endurance enhance dramatically. Or shoot….maybe you can just reach for this instead of a mid-day soda. Either way – it’s a good choice.
