Need some non-candy Halloween treats to hand out this year? It seems there is no shortage of reasons that people give candy, but not all parents appreciate it in their homes, and not all homes want to hand out candy. So, what do you hand out instead?
A few seasoned moms gave me some great feedback on ideas that kids enjoy, are mom approved (and Visibly Fit approved), and do not include high fructose corn syrup or anything of the like…

Yes, it’s ok to be the neighbor that hands out raisins – in fact, it’s BETTER to be THAT neighbor! My opinion of course. 😉 - Apple Sauce pouches (various options on Amazon)

Why not hand out candy?
First, maybe the most simple reason – there is no health benefit to candy. It is full of inflammation-causing sugar and the dyes used in candy often cause hormonal and emotional imbalances.
Second – there are so many various health issues and allergies, it’s nearly impossible to hand out something that every child that knocks can have, take home, or will enjoy.
And last, for the same (and sometimes less) as the cost of candy, you can hand out something that will engage their creativity, love of play, or a healthy eating option. Isn’t your money worth all of those benefits? AND isn’t the health of the child coming up to your door worth that and more? Let’s “feed” the next generation healthy treats.
