Detoxing seems to be a trend in the online and fitness world, and for good reason. A good detox is important because it not only helps to clear your body of the toxins and garbage that our culture douses our lives in, but it also helps restore the nutrient absorption that your system needs to function at its best.
The thing that most experts are getting wrong (in my opinion), and aren’t sharing is that you should be living a LIFESTYLE of detoxing. Web MD puts it like this: “The only type of detox diet that is worthwhile is one that limits processed, high-fat, and sugary foods, and replaces them with more whole foods like fruits and vegetables. That clean-eating approach is your best bet to getting your body in tip-top shape.”
Well that sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
Just like I am constantly saying, the only DIET isn’t a diet. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a clean way of eating and caring for yourself without concern for excess calories, sugars, salt, and unhealthy fats that are the culprit to so many health issues. When a “detox” is a lifestyle – diseases don’t set in as easily or at all.
Mayo Clinic shares: “So why do so many people claim to feel better after detoxification? It may be due in part to the fact that a detox diet eliminates highly processed foods that have solid fats and added sugar. Simply avoiding these high-calorie low-nutrition foods for a few days may be part of why people feel better.”
Again, it comes down to daily eliminating toxins from your general eating and routine; daily detox is eating whole, plant-based foods that are low in sugar and sodium but high in vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.
Although from the two quotes above, it could sound like there is no point to detox, then you are missing the point.
